If you are travelling or going on holiday, you may want a decent camera to take with you to capture those memories and share with your friends and family at home. Up until recently you had to fork out for a very expensive full-frame digital camera and fast zoom lenses to get a picture that was decent quality.
The camera manufactures recognised this as a problem, as not only were these types of photography equipment expensive, but they often were bulky and weighed quite a bit making them somewhat impractical for people wishing to take them away on holiday or travelling with them.
A few years ago Olympus and Panasonic partnered to create a new format that promised smaller cameras and lenses while maintaining great image quality. To make these new style of cameras work they had to do away with the reflex-viewing mirror but added eye-level electronic viewfinders (EVFs) that finally make them feel like real photographic tools.
