Bridge cameras occupy the space between the user friendly compact and the high end DSLR. They offer the ease of use of a compact and aren’t too bulky, while offering a good zoom, more megapixels and some of the manual features of a DSLR.
Compacts are great for everyday snaps and are…well, compact! If you want to take your photography further, however, but don’t want to pay a fortune or lug around a bulky camera and lenses, a bridge camera might well be the answer. The increased distance and quality of the zoom over a compact is the biggest advantage and the option to fiddle with settings like aperture and shutter speed mean it’s a good way to learn the techniques of good photography. The inability to change lenses can frustrate at times, but most come with macro settings etc. which give good results.
