Depending on what type of trip you are going to go on will reflect what image / video capture equipment you take with you. Lord knows you don’t want to be carrying around a red-cam with a full body harness on the road while you should be enjoying yourself.
If you are going travelling for a few months then it may be worth getting the combination of a compact DSLR or something like the Lumix DMC-FZ1000.
