Tracking Gorilla: What to Bring With You

Preparing yourself for a safari is very different to preparing yourself for your usual holiday by the beach. If you’re planning one that involves gorilla trekking, take a look at the packing list below for some tips on what you’ll need to bring along with you on your treks:

  • Waterproof, sturdy walking boots – heavy soled rain boots are the best. You’ll need to tuck your trousers into your boots on the trek.
  • Waterproof clothing. You’ll need a rain suit or waterproof trousers and a poncho or windproof and waterproof jacket.
  • A sweater or fleece.
  • Lightweight trousers and a short sleeve top.
  • Thick socks.
  • Gaiters to cover your ankles during your trekking are also useful.
  • Gloves made of leather or thick canvas (gardening gloves work too!) to protect your hands whilst you’re in the jungle.
  • A small, light and frameless day pack. This should be waterproof in case you encounter rain.
  • A malleable hat (again, waterproof is best).
  • Insect repellent with a substantial DEET content.
  • Binoculars. It’s best to choose lightweight ones with a neck strap or a fastening to attach them to your belt.
